Bio

Alexis Ashe is an artist and writer based in New York.  Her work tells a story, a moving, evolving reality, weaving the traditional and iconic with the dark and sinister to form a utopian and fantastical dream. Her works often feature BDSM imagery, expressions of altered reality, or occult symbols with friendly animals, cartoon characters, and comforting, familiar items or brands. Her art draws on her love for various music subcultures, including punk, glam rock, new wave and goth. Her paintings are a visual expression of these genres and an homage to her love for them.

Every being in her paintings, from humans and animals to food to pyramids or vehicles, is a character with a role in the story. Together they present a whimsical, almost utopian vision of a world where what is acceptable and comfortable meets what is transgressive and often absurd or surreal – and they greet each other with a smile. Alexis now majors in Performance Studies at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
